There’s something that happens inside me when I’m shooting with film. I can’t even really put my finger on what it is exactly. But I know I feel it. Some have suggested, it appears I shoot more with my heart when I have my film camera in my hand. I do know, that with film I shoot with more intention and attention. I’m more awake. More present.
Ever since I was young, I have loved poetry. I can’t say poetry or writing has ever come very easy to me. It’s always a long process for me to write anything, even this little blog post. But when I get to sit and read poetry or when I’m listening to the lyrics of a good songwriter, I become so inspired, and images and emotions and ideas begin filling my mind.
With all that said I’m excited to share with you an idea that I’ve been pondering for a while now…”Poetry Inspired Film Sessions”. I have recently added them to the list of sessions that I offer. Below is my very first Poetry Session that I shot with my two girls. I was inspired one afternoon with these words from Mary Oliver…
“I want to think again of dangerous and noble things
I want to be light and frolicsome
I want to be improbable and beautiful
And afraid of nothing as though I had wings”
