I spent a good part of this past week with just my 2 boys. My husband was away and my girls spent a couple days out of town as well. I decided I wanted to capture some ordinary photos of a typical day with my boys. We didn’t leave the house at all yesterday, which I suppose isn’t too typical for us, as we are often out exploring, even if it is just a block down the road to the lake. Yesterday however, we did not venture out. We stayed put.
The boys played their usual race track game… their cars spread out all over the floor, the kitchen table cleared of all it’s clutter…a perfect race track. The day lingered on… I repeated the words PLEASE DON’T DO THAT! and BE CAREFUL! the usual thousand times in a day. I intermittently did the dishes and laundry, while trying to teach a 3 year that he can’t win all the time…he can’t have all the best cars and he can’t have a bowl of only peanut butter for lunch every day! The day lingered on… I sat outside with my blanket while they played. A book sat on my right side, peppermint tea to my left. These are the days.
I’m celebrating the ordinary. Embracing that my life does not look picture perfect because it is not perfect in any way, but I try to remain grateful in everything and I hope that as I fumble my way through parenthood, I can somehow inspire in my children an attitude of thankfulness and heart of contentment.
