So this post is just a little late, but better late than never. This past December I had the honour of accompanying the Sunshine Dream Lift team on a trip to Disney Land with some amazing kids! I was asked to come along and photograph the day and the kids and their experience. It was such an awesome day. One that I’ll remember forever. It was also a very full day. We left in the morning and returned that same night!
A Sunshine DreamLift transports a plane full of children to a special destination (like Disneyland) and back. For many of the children, a DreamLift is more than just fun. It is their first chance to taste independence and experience the adventure of a first plane ride or a first day away from mom and dad.
The children, all of whom are challenged by a severe physical disability or life-threatening illness, are accompanied by medical staff and volunteer “buddies.” For donors and volunteers, a DreamLift offers a special way to see months and months of hard work and planning realized in the joyful faces of dozens of children.
Here are just a handful of the photos I captured from the day and just a taste of the fun we had!!!!
Wendy’s Restaurants in the BC Southern Interior will be holding Wendy’s DreamLift Day on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to closing. This is the 20th anniversary for the annual fundraising event to benefit The Sunshine Foundation of Canada.
All the net proceeds from the day’s sales in the nine participating Wendy’s, as well as staff, management and owner’s wages will be donated to Sunshine. Participating Wendy’s include; Kamloops (North Kamloops; Sahali; Valleyview), Salmon Arm, Vernon, Kelowna (Rutland & Hwy 97), West Kelowna & Penticton.
Local celebrities and dignitaries will be on hand along with members from the RCMP, former Wendy’s staff and other service/sports organizations to help make Wendy’s DreamLift Day a success.
