A New Adventure…

Tomorrow I leave on a new and special adventure.  I’m going to be photographing a wedding, so it’s not necessarily completely new, but what makes it new and monumental for me is this… just over 10 years ago while I was enjoying this photography passion of mine, and using my 35mm film camera and taking hundreds of photos and bringing my rolls of film into a local lab…I met a girl named Kari.  She worked at the lab.  She used to develop my photos and she’s the one who would insist to me that I explore the idea of photographing weddings and possibly move from photography being just a hobby.  She challenged me to take it further.

After some soul searching and me finding an extra portion of courage within myself, I accepted the opportunity of 2nd shooting for a season with a couple of very talented  friends of mine, Charla and Cindy, who happened to be in the wedding photography industry.  They graciously taught me many valuable things.  Not long after that, I began photographing weddings on my own.  As time went on I put away my 35mm camera and purchased a digital camera.  Initially I remember hating the look of the photos that came from it.  Truly, it took some time for me to get used to it, but as technology advanced so did the look of the photos.  I still, deep down, always missed film.  Fast forward 10 years later and I’m once again in need of that extra portion of courage as I journey back to that which captured my heart years and years ago.  Film photography.

So to make this little adventure even better, after 10 years of shooting weddings I find myself back where I first began, with my film camera in my hand and that girl named Kari from the photo lab.  I’m heading down south tomorrow, with Kari,  for a week, where together we’ll photograph a wedding, explore the world a little, meet new people, eat great food, and take lot’s of photos with my film camera!  We’ll reminisce while making some new memories to reminisce about one day.

My journey with film has really just begun, but it’s made me fall in love with photography all over again.  Here are just a few of the photos I’ve captured over the last couple of months, with my film camera.

I’m yet to use film during a wedding, but that’s soon to change.  That’s all part of this new adventure that begins tomorrow!
